Radio & TV Announcer
Job Outlook
Several factors will contribute to this decline in growth in this occupation. The number of television and radio stations is decreasing as stations merge. When stations merge, they are more likely to use programming from other sources. Thus, fewer announcers will be needed for local programming. Also, digital technology will increase the productivity of announcers. Competition will be keen because the broadcasting field attracts many more job seekers than there are job openings. Small radio and TV stations are more inclined to hire beginners at low pay in assistant positions. Larger stations will seek radio and TV announcers who have proven they can attract and retain a large audience.
